Comments: We made it through the Drakes Passage and onto the land. We stepped foot onto the Neko Harbour and climbed up the glacier. We helped our new friend, Christine, who was visiting from Jamaica walk step by step as far as she could climb and back again. It was a great reminder to slow down and appreciate the beauty around us. That deep aquatic blue that is almost gem-like between the cracks of the ice that envelopes the landscape. There is no other blue that exists this way, and it only lasts for a second when the light hits the edges and turns it inside out to a calm shade of grey. I remember reaching the top and then having an asthma attack. My inhaler was inside the boat and was doing my best to make it to the ship with tight lungs and thin cold air. At some point I started seeing stars and colors in my vision and held on, focused on breathing techniques. Sweating with anxiety and overcoming with slow stepping and deep breathing. It's funny because when you focus so much on how you cant breathe, that is all your mind can reflect to you. But when you start to focus on how to breathe, then you can stop the asthmatic panic. You almost need to let go and forget its happening and calm down for it to stop. In the case if you do not have the medicine, this is what saved my life a few times. Even running to a yoga class, which in itself is an ironic instance, having an asthma attack in the middle if hot yoga. Where all you can do is breathe as the teacher guides you. By the end of the class it was gone, when the mind lets it go. It is scary, and makes me more mindful to remember to breathe every moment, in the middle of the day, where your body autonomously functions even if we don't perceive while it is happening as we speak.
