Comments: It was an early morning meeting with my photographer friend, Omar. He has been living in Barcelona with his wonderful wife for work. We took in the morning golden glow to make art together on a flaneur walk of the city. Before breakfast we strolled down a some alleyways and happened on a well lit intersection People pushing strollers, walking by, biking through, as Omar stands and shoots those same people passing out of frame and turns his lens to make a portrait of me between the edits. When a street photographer walks the town we are looking for the constant unfolding of action with harmony of light and composition in the frame. Where it all comes together. Life in that 1/125th of a second, like no other. Henri Cartier Bresson once said, "Light does not hit the same wall twice." As the Earth spins around the sun, it is true that no moment will ever be the same again. With a camera we have the ability to make symbolic sense of the ensuing chaos of spontaneity. Omar captures this type of presence, this sort of street magic in his work. Seeing him work in his hyper-focused presence while engaged in conversation as we walk through the city. He knows the shot he is looking for, he knows his target and like an archer, calls the shot, draws back the arrow, and fire as they move closer to his frame. Photography is the transition between past and future. Does the present truly exist if it continues onward? The photo is the stillness, a fragment of something that once was for somewhere beyond to ponder. Photography is an expression, not just how you see the world but how you feel it too. The click of the shutter releases some small part of satisfaction in the brain. A chance to remember, a choice to become a mirror. They say the moment you make a photograph of something it dies, but perhaps it provides an eternal life?
