Hypostases of Venus
In Neoplatonic philosophy, a hypostasis is a fundamental level of reality or being. Plotinus described existence as structured in three main hypostases:
The One
The ultimate, transcendent source of all things—beyond form, thought, and description.
The Intellect (Nous)
The realm of perfect ideas. It is the divine intelligence that contains all eternal principles and Forms.
The Soul (Psyche)
The mediator between the intelligible and the material. From the Soul emerges the sensible world and the multiplicity of beings.
Each hypostasis emanates from the one above it without diminishing it: the One gives rise to the Intellect, and the Intellect to the Soul. Together, they describe a hierarchy of reality in which all things originate from a supreme principle and unfold into increasingly complex levels of existence.
