Bull Leaper

Bull-leaping was a major ritual of the Minoan civilization on Crete (c. 2000–1450 BCE). Trained acrobats ran toward a charging bull, grasped its horns, and used the animal’s momentum to vault over its back. Frescoes from Knossos and other palatial sites show this act as a blend of athletic skill, ceremony, and symbolic passage — a moment balancing danger, control, and ritual meaning in Minoan society.
