Sap Skin
Zhannet Podobed & Jenni Pasanen
Sap Skin explores how digital imagery can interact with something that looks and feels like living skin. The main idea is to show a connection between the organic and the technological. The flowing “sap” lines represent both biological movement and digital energy, suggesting how these two worlds overlap in modern life. The work focuses on the point where the body and digital signals begin to influence each other.
The process starts with creating a silicone canvas by hand, shaped to resemble soft, translucent skin. Digital patterns then projected onto this surface, where the texture of the silicone changes how the light behaves. The projection is photographed, and those images are edited digitally to enhance the interaction between the physical material and the digital layer. The final result is an image where skin, light, and digital effects merge into a single surface.
